Pumpkins in animal enclosures

Date: 27.10.2011.

date: October 27th, 2011

Living space of inhabitants of Zagreb Zoo will be enriched with pumpkins this weekend. This big orange squash of the fall to some of the animals is food and to others it serves for fun and exploration.

On Friday, the 28th of October, we shall surprise many animals with pumpkins as part of our enrichment programme. Enrichment encourages interaction between the animal and its environment. This fall, many animals will get pumpkins carved and shaped in various ways.

Collared peccaries will find pumpkins as treat while ravens, hornbills and cranes will search for food hidden inside them. Lions, jaguars and leopards find pumpkins fun while snakes and monitor lizards use them for exploration.

Pumpkins will be given to the animals on Friday, the 28th of October and they will be in enclosures all weekend or until they are eaten or destroyed.
