Easter eggs in Zoo

Date: 22.04.2011.

This year again, for Easter, we prepared a small surprise for our zoo inhabitants. They will get hard boiled eggs for breakfast on Easter morning. We will treat coatis, meerkats, mongooses, peccaries, capuchin monkeys and gibbons.

The eggs will be whole and they will have to break the shell to get their treat. Come to Zagreb Zoo on sunday to see for yourself that it is not that easy for some animals, such as meerkats and mongooses. The eggs are too large and hard (they are boiled) for them to break so it takes time before they can get to the nutritious centre. This way of feeding them, where they have to work to get to the food, is one of the enrichment methods that supports natural behavior.

In order to see all the animals that will get eggs, feeding is organized at specific time:

10:00 coatis and capuchin monkeys
10:40 meerkats and mongooses
11:20 gibbons and peccaries
