Autumn has begun and magical time at the Zoo is getting closer, the time that is favourite to the witch of Maksimir. Of course she loves the most, as all witches do, when night falls. Darkness is everywhere. The only light is from the moon that shines through the branches of Maksimir forest. Silence is everywhere. Then, a magical journey begins. Hooting of owls can be heard in the distance, snakes are hissing quietly, ravens are starting to crow, wolves are howling louder and louder and the animal choir is led by a lion’s roar.
In the distance, in the dark, one can only see a glowing pair of eyes. A little further away, another pair of eyes and then another. Soon, you realize that inhabitants of the zoo are watching you from all sides – antelopes, squirrels, ostriches, kangaroos and many others. They are all awake because magical tale Abrakadabra Zoo is beginning.
It is a mystical adventure in which all visitors have a chance to walk around Zagreb Zoo accompanied by an unusual hostess, the witch of Maksimir. However, she is not alone. The evil witch Morana wishes that winter lasts forever. She is always hiding something and preparing various spells. She is getting help from Črt, a terrible creature with sharp claws, bull's horns and bristles all over his body. The witch of Maksimir will not allow that to happen and her dear friend Podzemljar, who always helps people who are kind to animals, will help her with that. You can find out how they will stop Črt and Morana and who they will meet in this adventure only if you participate in the mystical adventure Abrakadabra Zoo…
The Abrakadabra Zoo programme is of a theatrical character in which educators in costumes lead visitors into the world of fairytales and legends while introducing them to animals in a unique and fun way. All characters that are mentioned in the programme are based on Croatian myths and legends so the children are also introduced to Croatian historical culture.
The programme is designed for families with children. During the programme, the visitors walk around the zoo at night. For refreshments we organised a grill allowing children to prepare food for themselves and a warm magic potion (tea). At the end of the programme there is a creative workshop with pumpkin carving.
